Sugartina 'Cristalina' Summersweet (Clethra alnifolia)
Summersweet - sometimes called sweet pepper bush. Native to the Eastern United States this slender, upright shrub will spread slowly outward and reach a hight of 5 to 8 feet. It's true attraction however is the sweet, extremely fragrant flowers on this variety are pure white.
On our plants around our pond they are white, when approached in summer the first thing you see is all the insects, mostly butterflies covering the flowers. The lush green serrated foliage will give way to bright yellow in fall and the seed capsules provide interest throughout the winter.
