This unusual clone of our native Iris virginica was a pass along plant from our friend Lois Wilson who no doubt got it from our friend Larry Lowman of 'Ridgecrest Nursery' in East Arkansas. Larry did not waist any time naming this plant after the late Carl Amason another Arkansas native plant guru, Carl selected it from a population along the Ouachita River in southern Arkansas.
This vigorous up to four feet tall clone emerges in spring with a nice purple flush to the new foliage. The flowers in May- June with purple-white patterned flowers. In two years, a clump can easily expand to 4' wide. It is happy in both regular garden soil as well as swamps.
