Maybe just
the ups and downs
of gardening,
that made this
Yiddish idiom
come to mind.
Yes gardening is fun
but sometimes

oy vey!

or in German

oh wie weh ist mir!
Well we had several arguments
about the spelling of it,
and finally chose' oy vey'.
To this day we are not sure if it is correct.
We certainly did not intend
to drag the Yiddish language
into 'shmuts' or 'drek'.
Most dictionaries used, 'oy vey'.

We have used this expression
(of woe or elation), out of admiration
for our Jewish friends and a fondness
for the Yiddish language tradition, which is
on the endangered language list.
