The Only Time To Get Out Of Here Is Winter.......

So we are doing it out. This trip I finally got a name that will stick with me, Diane is calling me 'Fitz'
short for Fitzgarraldo a movie from Werner Herzog.

Well than, of course we have to take the dogs, so we looked for dog friendly hotels on our difficult itinerary.
Hopefully it will be better as the 2007 'Dog' gone Vacation.

But since we are going to some very rural parts of Alabama 'Fitz' settled for the unthinkable, A RENTAL CAMPER.

So here we go, Sunday 11/29/08 we will head out towards Birmingham. With a very ambitious travel plan.

A goggle route is right here for you to view.

Sunday we will try to view several projects of the Rural Studio of the late Samuel Mockbee.
Guided by these two books we hope to find at least a few of the projects.

One we will see for sure is a public project at Perry Landing. After that we will sufficiently exhausted and stay overnight
at Paul M. Grist State Park.

Monday we will drive towards Gee's Bend to see some of these fascinating quilt makers, whose exhibit was at the Memphis Brooks in 2005 and is still on the road to this day.

After that to the Ferry and our overnight stay on the other side of the river.

Tuesday we are off to Florida. On the way we will stop at the home town of a good friend in London, Alabama.

Than comes the ocean. We are staying at the Grayton Beach State Park. Getting bikes delivered for flexibility.
Taking a kayak tour weather permitting Wednesday or Thursday.

Whish us luck. See you all back at 12/6/08
