Ashe Magnolia (Magnolia macrophylla var. ashei)

It will be a large shrub or even a small tree (15 feet or better) and blooms at an earlier age than the species.
The leaves are wide & long, up to 2 feet in length. The big, broad leaves make a wonderful backdrop for finer foliage, whether coniferous or broadleaf.
The upright creamy-white chalice-shaped flowers are fragrant.
