Lenten Rose or Christmas Rose (also known as Hellebore) is probably the first perennial to bloom in mid- to late winter (not counting some of the minor bulbs), with its pendulous flowers either peeking out beneath the old evergreen foliage or emerging on the own accompanied by the smaller stem leaves.
The color of our flowers may range from somewhat lighter than in the photo to a dark rich maroon.
Lenten Rose needs a shady site in rich, well drained soil for optimum performance. Makes for a grand year around ground cover
Zone 4-9.
We are also currently raising several hellebore with true colors (red, blue and white). They will be back available in Spring 2008
